SC stays HC ruling on medical admission

The Supreme Court today froze a High Court order staying the mark deduction for medical and dental college admission retake.

The decision was stayed until October 3 (3 days before the MBBS admission test) by Chamber judge Justice Hasan Foez Siddique of the Appellate Division.

The order was passed following a petition filed by the government seeking stay on the High Court order.

The chamber judge also asked the government to file a leave to appeal petition with the Supreme Court to challenge the High Court order.

The High Court on September 12 stayed a government decision to deduct marks from second time admission seekers in response to a writ petition that termed the penalty discriminatory.

A rule was also issued by the court which asked the authorities concerned of the government to explain why the decision to deduct five marks should not be declared illegal.

The MBBS admission test is scheduled for October 6. For dental colleges, the admission test is scheduled for November 10.
