‘Raees’ crosses Rs 100 cr mark at box office

Raees has been one of the most awaited films of Shah Rukh Khan for a long time.

The Rahul Dholakia directorial released on a Wednesday, and crossed the Rs 100-crore mark on Monday as per early trade estimates. Trade tracker Ramesh Bala wrote that the film approximately earned Rs 7.5 crore on Monday, bringing its total earning to Rs 100.74 crore.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh had earlier tweeted the first weekend numbers. He wrote “#Raees Wed 20.42 cr, Thu 26.30 cr, Fri 13.11 cr, Sat 15.61 cr, Sun 17.80 cr. Total: ₹ 93.24 cr. India biz… Weekdays are crucial!.”

“#Raees nears ₹ 100 mark in its extended 5-day weekend… Will be SRK’s 7th film in ₹ 100 cr Club…,” said Taran Adarsh on Twitter.

Ramesh B also gave a break-up of the film’s earnings in some of the international markets, “#NA – $2,369,469 [₹16.07 Cr]; #UK – £721,220 [₹ 6.18 Cr]1; #Aus – A$653,083 [₹ 3.36 Cr]; #NZ – NZ$170,833 [₹ 85 L].”

Factors like the Republic Day holiday, the weekend and the face of Shah Rukh Khan played a major role in attracting the audience to the theaters. While Nawazuddin Siddiqui shone in the words of the critics, SRK shone in the eyes of his fans as a gangster.

Team Raees celebrated their success party on Monday, where no alcohol was served as January 30 was the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. It was quite ironic as the lead character in the film, Raees Alam, is a bootlegger in Gujarat which is a dry state.

Shah Rukh Khan had previously played negative roles in films like Don, Anjaam, and Baazigar. Nevertheless being the king of romance, his directors also made sure that SRK gets to romance his leading ladies too, because what would a Bollywood film be if it had Shah Rukh but not have him romancing, except something as timelessly watchable as Chak De India.
