A Bangladeshi national has been arrested by Libyan police on Thursday on charge of his involvement in trafficking 37 other Bangladeshis into the country.

Bangladesh Embassy in Tripoli identified the detainee as Sujan, a resident from Noakhali.

Around 30,000 Bangladeshis are now working in Libya, the embassy release added.

The embassy officials assured them of providing necessary assistance.

In June last year, the Bangladesh government officially banned sending its nationals to Libya on security grounds. Libya also suspended recruitment of workers due to the troubled state of the country.

These traffickers have been working for the last two or three years for some recruiting and travel agents based in Bangladesh.

More than 30,000 Bangladeshis are currently working in a risky situation in Libya.
